Dark Age of Camelot
Test Version 1.70g Release Notes
April 27, 2004
===================================
NEW THINGS AND BUG FIXES
- (SI and ToA Only) Changes made in 1.69 inadvertently caused players running two instances of DAOC to go linkdead or experience other problems. To address this and restore the original level of functionality, we have added a new "sleep mode" to the client, to allow it to run while using very low CPU usage when in the background or minimized. Setting it to "Background" will not render when the window is not the active window on your desktop, and setting it to "Minimized" will cause it to not render when the game is minimized. You can adjust your settings in the Options Menu or ingame using the "/clientsleep" command.
- (Pendragon Only) Fixed an issue where bodies of monsters were not being removed after they died.
- We have added the /range command. This command works similar to /gtrange but is based off of your current target rather than your ground target.
- Clerics, Druids, and Healers should now be correctly converted to receive the lower level spreadheals.
- The friends list should now work correctly.
NEW FRONTIERS NOTES
- Boats no longer require Trials of Atlantis access.
- Players who attempt to log in near a keep that is owned by an enemy realm will now be moved to a "safe point".
- Fixed a bug where pets were not able to capture keeps.
- Players can no longer do positional styles on doors.
- Fixed remaining issues that enabled players to board the enemy realms' fast attack boats.
- Fixed a bug that would not allow a guild to claim a keep in the New Frontiers if the guild owned a keep in any old frontier zone.
Siege Changes
- /groundassist can now be used on siege equipment to acquire its current ground target location.
- Players should now take 50% less damage when hit by a siege attack while riding a piece of siege equipment.
- Players can no longer cast spells, use items, or sit while riding a ram.
- Line of sight to your ground target is now required to begin moving siege equipment.
- Typing /control with no siege weapon close should no longer print garbage text.
- Fixed a bug where after releasing a piece of siege equipment, the next player to try to right click control it would not immediately get the control box.
- Destroyed siege equipment should now properly release the owner's control.
- Fixed a bug where trade skill created siege weapons could not be boarded by players other than the crafter of the siege weapon.
- You should now receive a message if your siege weapon misses all targets.

It should now have a cast time for the pet, which will prevent it from being used in combat without the use of facilitate pain. It has been reduced in effectiveness by 50% until the bug preventing its variance is fixed.
- The Necromancer's version of The Empty Mind has been changed in the following ways: It should no longer have a power cost. Duration is reduced to its intended 45 seconds. The bonus has been reduced to 10% to prevent any exploitation of the ability until the bug preventing its variance is fixed.
- The Necromancer's version of Negative Maelstrom has been changed in the following ways: Re-use time set to 15 minutes.
***Please note that Negative Maelstrom will not function for the Necromancer at this time. We're aware of the problem and we appreciate your patience while we are fixing this issue. Necromancers should avoid purchasing this ability until further notice.

Damage type changed from body to spirit, which is its intended damage type. Damage reduced by 50% to prevent this ability from being exploited until the bug preventing its variance is fixed. The ability's snare should no longer permanently snare targets. However, we're also aware that the snare lasts only 10 seconds, regardless of level. This will be fixed in a future Pendragon version.
Siege Changes
- Boiling oil will now do more damage.
- Boiling oil will once again do full damage against all targets in the radius of effect.
TRADESKILL CHANGES:

- The flask of glacial essence recipe should require the proper ingredients.
- The diminutive catapult and trebuchet apparatus recipes should now require a counterweight.

NEW THINGS AND BUG FIXES
- Font of Power will no longer affect targets which have been engaged in PvE combat within the last 10 seconds. The Font was having an unbalancing effect on PvE combat. After much discussion and debate, we decided to leave the Font itself alone and make it RvR-only (rather than reduce its effectiveness or otherwise reduce its usefulness in RvR with an across-the-board change).
- Necromancer pets and Animist bombers now get full benefit from their owners' spell piercing items and Traldor's Oracle Archmagery buffs.
- It is no longer possible to use pets to attack targets with an engage radius when the caster is outside of the engage radius. This includes dragons, keep lords, and tower captains.
- Pets will once again follow their masters underwater when possible.
- Players on personal boats will no longer be hit by radius effects from spells.
- Players will no longer be able to board a boat while in combat.

Dark Age of Camelot
Test Version 1.70t Release Notes
May 26, 2004
===================================
NEW FRONTIERS
- (Pendragon Only) RvR Death Sickness can no longer be right-click removed.
- It is no longer possible to finish repairing a target which comes under attack during the repair process.
RvR Death Penalty System - Take Two
As part of the New Frontiers expansion and based on player feedback, we have decided to change the way our death penalty works in RVR combat. The existing system (as it plays out on Pendragon with our new terrain) often results in gameplay with very little strategy, where people mindlessly fling themselves at a target over and over. Enemies are rarely worth realm points after the first few minutes, and all around it’s not very interesting or fun. The new system allows the player to make strategic decisions, gives more value to player resurrection, and provides an incentive to strategize attacks rather than relying on “the zerg rush.” We will obviously be watching the feedback closely, and we will make adjustments as necessary. There is plenty of discussion and there are varied opinions on this subject here at Mythic, and we look forward to your testing and feedback helping us to make the final decisions.
- There is a 20 second timer before a player can release (via the command /release) from an RvR death.
- If a player releases from an RvR death, a RvR Death Sickness is applied to the character. This Death Sickness lasts for three minutes and is incurable (with one exception, Restore the Soul). The player will get a 30% decrease in effective power (meaning that everything is now affected - healing, spell damage, spell duration, melee damage, etc) and a 20% movement rate reduction for each Death Sickness icon of this type.
- Please note that this is a completely separate death sickness from the current PvE death sickness, which will remain in-game for PvE deaths. And, as always, the PvE death sickness will be curable at a Healer.
- If a player is resurrected from an RvR death, a different RvR Death Sickness is applied to the character (unless Perfect Recovery was used, in which case there is no Death Sickness). The 30% decrease in effective power still applies, but there is no movement penalty of any kind. This Death Sickness lasts up to three minutes and is incurable (with one exception, Restore the Soul).
- The duration of this Sickness can be reduced by the type of resurrection spell used. Currently:
Base Line Resurrection/Egg of Youth - 2 minutes, 48 seconds
Tier 1 Spec Resurrection - 2 minutes, 31 seconds
Tier 2 Spec Resurrection - 2 minutes, 13 seconds
Tier 3 Spec Resurrection - 1 minute, 28 seconds
Perfect Recovery - 0 seconds (again, using Perfect Recovery means there is no RvR Death Sickness)
- Both resurrection Death Sickness and /release Death Sickness can be completely cured by the Master Level 8 Perfector ability, Restore the Soul.
- Multiple Death Sicknesses can stack with each other, for cumulative effects. In other words, if the player dies and releases a second time while still bearing the icon for Released Death Sickness, he will have two icons, his movement will be decreased by 40%, and suffer a 60% decrease in effective power - at least until the first icon drops. If a player dies and releases, and then dies and is resurrected while the first icon is still active, he will have a 60% decrease in effective power, but only a 20% movement penalty.
- The Veil Recovery realm ability will shorten all timers by 20% for each level of the Veil Recovery ability that you have.
Realm Points and Player Deaths
- While you are dead, you will now earn 25% of the realm points you would have earned if you were still alive.
- RELEASED AFTER DEATH - For three minutes after any death (RvR or PvE death), if the player releases, the player will receive a 50% reduction to realm points gained for enemy realm kills. In other words, if you die and release, you will be limited by 50% in your ability to earn realm points for three minutes.
- A released player will not be worth any realm points for one minute after death, and worth 25% of his total points for four more minutes after that. After five minutes, the player will be worth the full total. (As a point of comparison, on live servers, a player is worth no points at all for ten minutes after death.)
- RESURRECTED AFTER DEATH - There will be no penalty to the player's ability to earn realm points.
- Same as a released player, a resurrected player will not be worth any realm points for one minute after death, and worth 25% of his total points for four more minutes after that. After five minutes, the player will be worth the full total. (As a point of comparison, on live servers, a player is worth no points at all for ten minutes after death.) Please note that distance restrictions on realm points still apply.
Battlegrounds
- Experience rewards have been added which will be granted upon the successful keep capture in the battlegrounds from levels 1-44. Upon successfully killing the Keep Lord/Jarl/Chieftain, every eligible player inside the keep region will be awarded approximately 25% of their level in experience. This experience reward can be earned once per level for every level, up to level 44.
Realm Ability Changes and Fixes
- The following unique Realm Abilities are now ready for testing on Pendragon.
Healer - Sputin's Legacy
Shadowblade - Shadow Strike
Spiritmaster - Spirit Martyr
- The Sputin's Legacy unique Realm Ability for Healers has been redesigned. It is now an ability that can be used every 15 minutes, that gives the Healer a 30 second "window". During that window, if they die, they have an additional command they can use in addition to /release, '/resurrect'. Typing /resurrect will self-resurrect the healer with 10% power and health. Note that unlike the original Realm Ability design, this can be used by the Healer any time between death and the healer's auto-releasing to their bind point. The Healer can also release or be resurrected by another player if they choose.
Siege Updates
- (Pendragon Only) The recipes to deploy diminutive siege engines should now work properly.
- Players will now be able to hit targets which are above water with siege equipment.
Monsters
- Evern, his wraith drakes, and his wraith fairies have returned to Breifine.
Passage of Conflict
- A new demoness has appeared in the Passage of Conflict, forcing all others to pay her homage.

NEW THINGS AND BUG FIXES
- Font of Power will no longer affect targets which have been engaged in PvE combat within the last 10 seconds. The Font was having an unbalancing effect on PvE combat.

Test Version 1.70x Release Notes
June 4, 2004
===================================
TEST SERVER CHANGES
- We have set the /level command to 24 to facilitate testing in Thidranki, the level 20-24 Battleground.
NEW THINGS AND BUG FIXES
- Graphical effects from radius spells will no longer play an effect for every target within the spell's radius. Players will only see one graphic play over the caster's target for the spell. This is a fix for a bug that was re-introduced in version 1.69 that played unintended spell effects, causing severe client problems for some of our users.
New Grouping Level Range Changes
With 1.70, we are relaxing the rules that govern the level ranges that can effectively group together. The intent of this new system is to allow lower-level players to group with substantially higher-level group leaders, and enable them to make some contribution to combat and spellcasting.
The system works as follows:
- Whenever a low-level character (5th level or higher) joins a group led by a higher level character, they are temporarily adjusted so that they can hit and land spells on monsters of the range that are normally fought by the group leader. They will be able to hit, and also to do damage to these monsters.
- This adjustment kicks in when a player approximately 90% of the level of the group leader or less joins a group. This means that if anyone less than 17th level joins a group led by a 20th level group leader, their to-hit and damage are boosted up so that they can hit and damage monsters that are commonly fought by a 20th level group. Also, while grouped, they will take less damage per hit from high level monsters.
- This system does not affect items such as weapons or armor - only to-hit and damage, and to some extent, damage taken is affected.
- Lower level group members must be within 3000 units of the group leader in order to receive the bonus.
- Experience gained by the lower level character is the same as it currently is on the live servers when lower level characters are being powerleveled by higher level friends.
- There are diminishing returns on the effectiveness of wide level ranges in this system. Any character that is approximately half the group leader's level or lower will not see as much bonus from this system as characters closer to the target range; although they will still get some benefit.
NEW FRONTIERS
- As a part of the New Frontiers expansion, the line of sight code is being revised to improve the keep battle experience. On Pendragon, new line of sight code is now in place for all keeps in the frontiers. Players will not be able to use area effect spells to damage others through keep walls/gates. Keep guards will also obey line of sight rules when attacking enemy players. Please note that as this system is still in development, there are still some cases where players are able to achieve line of sight through keep walls/gates. We are aware of these cases and we will be addressing them in the next patch. When reporting line of sight bugs, please make sure you include the zone name, keep name and level, and the complete location you get when typing /loc.
- Volley is no longer stripped from a player if they do a single skill respec in a skill other than archery.
- Outpost patrol guards will no longer spawn inside the wall of the outpost. They have also had their patrol path adjusted slightly.
PvP Server Notes
- Players under the PvP ruleset (Mordred) will not have any of the new types of RvR death sicknesses applied to them.
Realm Ability Changes and Fixes
- Epiphany should now grant 25% power to the caster and the caster's group. This fixes a bug that caused this ability to grant only 15% power.
- Animist bombers and necromancer pets now gain the benefit of their owner's Wild Power realm ability.
- Shadowblades can now execute subsequent styles in their Critical Strike chain after performing a Perforate Artery, Backstab II, or Backstab I through Shadowstrike. Additionally, followup styles in a style chain executed from Shadowstrike should no longer give the "You fail to execute Creeping Death perfectly" error message.
- If a player unstealths, they cancel any pending Assassinations or Shadowstrikes.
- The stealth effect from Vanish is now removed when you die.
- Allure of Death now correctly provides the resistance to nearsight when in skeletal form.
- The Runemaster unique realm ability, Rune of Utter Agility, now grants over 50% evade and works as an enhanced evade. Note that while the evade delves as a 90% evade, the chance will be lower if attacked by significantly higher level enemies.
- Veil Recovery now modifies sickness duration when a player releases.
- The Blademaster's Blade Barrier unique realm ability now grants over 50% chance to parry. Note that while the ability delves as a 90% chance to parry, the chance will be lower if attacked by significantly higher level enemies.
- When a player is healed by a Divine Intervention healing battery, it now properly notes the owner of the healing battery in the heal message.
Mastery of Stealth Changes
- Mastery of Stealth now grants a passive increase to the character's stealth detection radius, as listed in the ability's delve, in addition to the previously described movement bonus while stealthed.
Mastery of Stealth 1 - 75 unit increase
Mastery of Stealth 2 - 175 unit increase
Mastery of Stealth 3 - 300 unit increase
Mastery of Stealth 4 - 450 unit increase
Mastery of Stealth 5 - 625 unit increase
- The figures listed above are total, not cumulative.
- The Mastery of Stealth bonus can be canceled if the stealthed target is using Camoflauge or if both the stealthed target and the user have the Detect Hidden skill.
- Note that both the target and the searcher can have Mastery of Stealth. These will *not* cancel each other out; in this instance both players will detect each other from a greater distance away (if one has Detect Hidden, they will detect the other first due to Detect Hidden's bonus).
- Players with Vanish active are immune from detection, no matter what the searcher's Mastery of Stealth skill is.
Siege Changes
- It is now possible to move a ram similar to how a boat is moved - simply setting a new ground target will direct the ram to move to the targetted location.
- Siege equipment should no longer track and fire on stealthed targets.
- The radius on stone shot ammo has been increased to 450.
- The ammunition types created through the Convoker Summon Warcrystal ability have been updated. Players will now be able to summon ammo equivalent to stone shot, greek fire, and ice ball.
Item Notes
- All monsters except the animals in the Passage of Conflict and the Summoner's Hall dungeons now have a chance to drop realm respec stones.

===================================
NEW THINGS AND BUG FIXES
- Petcast spells that would fail when the player's pet is in combat now correctly abort before casting, triggering timers, using power, etc.
- Objects can no longer do critical hits from procs or reverse procs.
- Players are no longer required to have 1 skill point in Siegecraft to control, aim, and fire siege equipment.
NEW FRONTIERS
- Volley no longer bypasses bladeturn spells.
- Players now need to take all four towers in order to teleport into a keep. Note that the central keep still determines supply chains.
- Respec'ing your realm abilities no longer prints the last update message twice if your resistances, power, or hit points update.
- Piece condition no longer affects downgrading keeps.
Realm Ability Changes and Fixes

- Purge will only set its re-use timer if it actually removes a negative effect.
- The Nightshade's unique realm ability, Remedy, has been reworked. It can now be used from stealth (although it cannot be activated while mesmerised or stunned). It now also has delve information. The health subtracted from the nightshade now is levied when the ability expires. Since Remedy is now ability-based instead of spell based, it now uses an ability toggle icon in the effects bar which cannot be delved and is different from the realm ability's hotbar icon.
- Characters now drop out of combat mode when they try to take a swing at someone who has debuffed them with Selective Blindness. Ranged combat and spell combat targeting with Selective Blindness has not been changed, just melee.
- Characters that have the Vanish effect can no longer be targeted at all by snare, mesmerise, and stun spells (area of effect or otherwise). Previously area of effect versions of these spells would target Vanished players.

- Necromancers who try to cast storms while too far from their pet no longer trigger re-cast timers.
- Thornweed Field now delves as casting a 50% snare at all realm ability levels and variable damage, depending on the realm ability level.
- Petcasted realm abilities should no longer have missing information in spell delves.
- The Mastery of Concentration realm ability now levies the specified effectiveness penalty on spells when used (previously it was ignoring purchased levels and setting spell effectiveness to 100%).
- Fixed delve information for Assassinate and Vanish realm abilities.
- Players can now use the Assassination realm ability on Necromancer pets.
- Using the Testudo unique realm ability now slows you to 75% of your normal movement speed. Using a style will cancel the Testudo realm ability.
- Dreamweaver now properly breaks whenever the bard enters combat mode.
Siege Changes
- Messages have been added to let the ram helpers know fire timing and damages.
- A message has been added to let the ram controller know to add more helpers when under-helped.
